How much is a ferry ticket from Cebu to Bohol?

I highly recommend pre-booking your ferry tickets online to get from Cebu to Bohol. The prices are relatively the same, slightly cheaper online versus purchasing at the pier on your departure date for round trips. The ticket office had a massive line outside and looked painful for those waiting in the heat. To save you time and convenience.

We have provided options below for pre-booking your tickets and outlined seating options. Tourist Class and Business Class, what luggage is allowed, and how much luggage costs.

Tourist Class ($16 USD One Way, $32 USD Round Trip)

Standard seating which includes one personal item (7kg) and one checked luggage (15kg). Excess baggage can be checked for 15PHP per KG.

Business Class ($23 USD One Way, $46 USD Round Trip)

Larger, more comfortable seating which includes one personal item (7kg) and one checked luggage (15kg). Excess baggage fees are the same as tourist class.

You can book your tickets here.

Baggage Loading Fee for Cebu to Bohol Ferry

100 PHP for large checked luggage, and 50 PHP for carry-on size luggage. In US dollars this is $1.80 USD and $0.90 USD respectively. The price can vary depending on who is working, it is a different price from Bohol back to Cebu.

Waiting Area from Cebu Pier

The ticket will display what gate you will board the ferry from. There are air-conditioned seating areas, and a few options to grab snacks and drinks. Close by the seating areas, there are clean washrooms. I definitely recommend using washrooms at the port before getting on the boat which is a lot more sanitary.

Other Important Info | Cebu to Bohol Ferry

ATMS & Currency Conversion at Cebu Pier 1

There are ATMs at the Cebu Pier 1 We took out 10,000 pesos from the DPI ATM, the ATM fee is 250 pesos + currency conversion, so on the 10,000 withdrawal we paid 10,456 (456 peso total from currency conversion fee and atm fee)

Therefore, they didn’t charge us for 4 bags of luggage (two carry-on and two large).

Once you board you will head to your assigned seat on the cebu to bohol ferry! There are washrooms onboard but would recommend using before as ports are much nicer/more sanitary. The book is inside for air-conditioned seating.

Can you bring extra baggage on the Oceanjet ferry?

For the Cebu to Bohol route we checked 4 suitcases (2 large, 2 carry-on) for our trip to Bohol. We have heard that depending on the day they might not even charge for extra baggage. This was the case for us as we only paid the loading fee of 300 PHP (2 large for 100 PHP each and 2 carry-on for 50 PHP each).

Getting Around Bohol

We travelled from Cebu to Bohol by OceanJet Ferry. We pre-booked discounted tickets here. 2-hour ride (Note: 1 carry-on per person and check-in luggage 15kgs max for tourist class, 20kgs for business class.)

Bohol has two main entry points: Tagbilaran Airport and Tagbilaran Seaport

How do you get from Tagbilaran Airport or Seaport to your hotel?

The most convenient way to get to the city center is by taking a tricycle or taxi. Tricycles are readily available outside the airport and can accommodate up to 3 passengers, sometimes 4.

Tricycles are not regulated, so you may need to negotiate with the drivers to get the best price. It’s always good to ask how much the fare is before you get in. When you exit the Seaport, yes, you will be swarmed by people asking you where you are going and they will help you arrive your transportation to your hotel. There seems to be a set rate of 800 pesos for a Taxi from the Seaport to Panglao area. For a tricycle it’s about 300-400 pesos.

The public transportation in Bohol is primarily by jeepney, which is just a local bus that operates on set routes around the island, it can accommodate more than 15 passengers at a time. It’s definitely the most affordable and local way to get around, however, it may be culture shock and less desirable for the average tourist.

Tuk-Tuk is another option versus the jeepney which is popular among tourists for getting around however, this option will be more expensive as it’s not regulated on the island, therefore, the drivers can charge a lot higher than in big cities.

Taxis are not as readily available in Bohol but mostly waiting at arrival ports, however, they are the most expensive option. You can find them in major tourist areas like the airport, the seaport, shopping malls, hotels and more. When we stayed near Alona Beach, we didn’t see many around. There are plenty of TukTuks/Tricycles.

As of May 2023, my experience was that taxis have a fixed rate of 800 PHP or $14 USD from the Taligran Sea Port to the Panglao area. This is actually quite expensive compared to getting around in a city like Cebu.

Tricycles are the more affordable option but for shorter distances, and when not transporting a lot of luggage.

Travel Tip: The best decision that made our Bohol trip so memorable was deciding to rent a car. This was not only more cost-efficient than the other transportation option, but we also had no trouble with parking, and we had the flexibility to craft our stunning 3-day Bohol itinerary which we will share all the details in the itinerary section.
