Getting Around Bali

Pre-Arrival Checklist

What do I need to bring to Bali? Before you set foot in Bali, we’ve put together a pre-checklist to ensure you’re fully prepared for your upcoming journey.

Getting a local SIM card is highly recommended for data access if you don’t have a roam-like-home option. Choose a prepaid package that meets your data requirements to make sure you’re always connected when traveling and when no wifi is available you’re able to have access to your travel docs, data, and information and transportation apps. You can pre-order a SIM Card in advance at the airport.

You will receive a 30-day Tourist Visa upon arrival in Indonesia, the cost is $35 USD or 500,000 IDR. If you wish to extend your visa online for an additional 30 days, you must initially pre-book it online before your initial arrival. Proof of COVID vaccination or a test result is not required.

We received the Typhoid vaccine and received our hepatitis A, prior to travel to Indonesia. We always recommend seeking advice for vaccinations for Indonesia on the CDC website, and/or visiting a travel medical clinic before traveling to a destination.

Disclaimer: The information shared regarding travel vaccines is based on our experiences and research and should not replace advice from a qualified healthcare professional. For personalized vaccine information and guidance, please consult with a medical expert such as a travel clinic.

The power plug type used in Indonesia is typically Type C (European) and Type F (Schuko), with a standard voltage of 230V and a frequency of 50Hz. You can opt for the universal travel adapter which has many plug-type variations great for international travel.

Before traveling, it’s crucial to have travel & medical insurance coverage whenever you’re traveling abroad to another country. We always recommend checking your credit card’s insurance policies to understand the coverage and duration of your insurance.

Most travel credit cards have coverage between 14-30 days on the high-end. Therefore, depending on the coverage type and duration of your trip, purchasing travel insurance that supplements these policies, is recommended to provide you with peace of mind and financial security, to ensure your trip is worry-free.

Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or planning your first adventure, we’ve handpicked a selection of must-have travel items that will make your journeys smoother and more enjoyable. From packing hacks to smart gadgets, these essential travel items have helped us organize better and maintain a stress-free travel experience while saving us time!

When Is the Best Time To Visit Bali?

The best time to visit Bali is during the peak season, which is between May and September when you can expect sunny weather, minimal rainfall, and ideal conditions for outdoor activities and tourist attractions. During this period, temperatures range from 26°C (79°F) to 33°C (91°F).

The rainy season in Bali, from October to April, typically brings the highest rainfall. However, it also offers the advantage of lush greenery and fewer tourists, with temperatures ranging from 23°C (73°F) to 30°C (86°F).

Our Thoughts

Bali holds a special place in our hearts, a destination that blends paradise, culture, relaxation, and fun all in one trip. While the traffic and haggling can be daunting, they’re part of the adventure.

What we wish we had known before coming here is how long you could wait in traffic to get to attractions and how important the method of transportation can be. Honestly, the reality is some are just not comfortable with riding a scooter themselves or on the back of a grab bike as a passenger. As a result, taking a car between places you could land yourself in hours of traffic depending on your destination.

Plan ahead, and leave early morning to get to other destinations to avoid traffic when transporting luggage. If you ride scooters while there is traffic, it’s much easier for yourself or the local driver (Grab) to weave in and out of traffic saving you a lot of time! Overall, Bali is truly a special destination for travelers to visit, we love sharing our guides and itineraries to help prepare you for a trip to remember!
