There are 3 main ways you can get to the beach including scooter, car, or ride-sharing services.

By Scooter:
You can rent a scooter for approximately $5 to $10 USD per day. It is a popular and cheap way to reach the beach. It allows you to navigate Bali’s narrow roads easily. If you’re not experienced or comfortable with the risks associated with riding scooters, we don’t advise this option.

If you value a more comfortable experience, you can look into hiring a driver for half-day or full-day. This way you can visit many nearby beaches in the area throughout the day.

Using Ride-Sharing Services:
We love using apps like Grab and Gojek. You can choose a car or scooter to pick you up. The driver will then drop you off at the parking area near Green Bowl Beach.

Wildlife: Encountering Monkeys

You will notice right away that Monkeys are commonly seen along the path to the beach. While they add to the area’s natural charm, it’s important to be cautious when approaching them. We recommend having all your belongings zippered up and don’t carry any plastic bags with you. These monkeys are not shy and may attempt to snatch loose items they may perceive as food!

Activities at Green Bowl Beach

Can you swim at Green Bowl Beach?

We don’t recommend swimming at Green Bowl beach due to sharp rocks on the seabed and powerful currents. Swimming and snorkeling are often discouraged at Green Bowl Beach to ensure your safety.

Surfing At The Beach

Surfing at Green Bowl Beach is recommended for more experienced surfers. The beach is known to have a  powerful right reef break. As a result, the waves can also be challenging due to strong currents and the exposed reef. The best conditions are during low to mid-tide when the waves are more manageable. During the morning sessions you’re more likely to take advantage of calmer winds.

Exploring the Caves

Green Bowl Beach has large limestone caves for shade and small rock shrines. Nearby, Guha Watu Pageh Temple sits in a cave on a cliff, offering a peaceful spot to relax. We saw some locals who setup a picnic in the cave which was quite nice!

Best Time To Visit

The best time to visit Green Bowl Beach is during the dry season (April to October). You want to visit the beach when the weather is sunny and pleasant. For a better experience, plan your visit during low tide, as high tide can cover most of the sandy area. In some cases, during high tide you won’t be able to go much further than the stairs. Arriving in the morning helps you avoid crowds and the intense midday sun. Accessing the beach involves descending over 300 steps, therefore, visiting during daylight hours is advisable for safety, and visibility.

Visitor Travel Tips

Safety Considerations

It’s important to note that there are no lifeguards at Green Bowl Beach. As there are strong currents and sharp rocks, move slowly and wear comfortable footwear. Sandals or water shoes for most comfort. If you encounter a monkey, don’t look directly in its eyes and walk the opposite way. We avoided the monkeys and had a very enjoyable experience.

Beach Amenities

There are limited facilities nearby the beach. The facilities are limited to a few small local eateries near the parking area. There are no washrooms closeby the beach. We recommend bringing personal supplies like water, sunscreen, and snacks. However, if you bring plastic, food or water, be cautious of the monkeys. We only encountered them near the stairs, not under the cave!

Environmental & Culutural Considerations
