Discover the Edge Observation Deck! This ultimate outdoor sky deck is the highest in the Western Hemisphere. Its unique structural design hangs in mid-air creating an incredible sensation of floating amidst the clouds, offering unparalleled 360-degree views of Manhattan. We’re going to share all the travel tips and detailed information you need to enjoy this incredible attraction!
How to Access The Edge Observation Deck
You can enter through the 30 Hudson yards entrance or the shopping mall entrance across from the Vessel. Take the elevator or escalators up to the 4th floor for the main entrance.
You can’t miss the entrance, this is where you will scan your timed entry tickets. We recommend booking your tickets in advance to secure your desired date and time entry. They can be relatively strict about timed entry therefore, grace periods for being late are typically a grey area; our friend was 15 minutes late and he was just accepted in.
2. Book Tickets In Advance & Save On Ticket Prices
We recommend purchasing your ticket for the Edge Observation Deck in advance. We booked through Klook and secured our desired date and time.
If you haven’t used Klook before, you can use my code HUNGRYPURSUIT for additional savings.
As noted previously, if you plan to do multiple attractions we recommend the New York City Pass. We love how it provides great flexibility to choose from a list of 25 attractions and save money by bundling attractions.
For example, you can bundle the NYC Hop-On-Hop-Off Bus, Edge Observation Deck, and Statue of Liberty Cruise all in one three-attraction NYC Pass. You can save up to 40% off on attractions when you purchase the pass.
How many floors is the Edge Observation Deck?
You will take the elevator up 100 floors above Manhattan. But before you step on the elevator you will walk past many infographics to learn about the Hudson Yards neighborhood.
Hudson Yards was designated as Manhattan’s first LEED Gold neighborhood development. This was in recognition of being a green, sustainably engineered neighborhood.

The exhibits are very short most people we saw just walked right by them. Therefore you are really there for the observatory itself unlike Summit One Vanderbilt the exhibits were immersive and we found ourselves spending a lot of time in the different rooms and areas. After you walk past all the infographics you will queue up for the elevator to the Edge Observation Deck.
The Edge Outdoor Sky Deck
On the 100th floor make your way outside to the 7,500 sq ft outdoor space. The sky deck spans out to a maximum of 80 ft to the furthest point. Take pictures above Manhattan while being 1,100 ft in the air!
Edge Observation Deck Photo Spot Tips
Angled Glass Walls
Surrounding the sky deck are angled glass walls outward where you will feel the adrenaline rush gazing at the city below. To capture this beautiful photo have one person head to the west corner of the observation deck while the other heads inside to snap the picture through floor to ceiling window.

Sunset By the Glass in View of the World Trade Center
Visit the Edge Observation Deck at Sunset for these iconic views of the Financial District! The amazing thing is there is no added cost to your ticket for visiting the Edge at sunset unlike Summit One Vanderbilt or the Empire State Building’s Observation decks.
Stop by the Champagne Bar
You can sip champagne or a cocktail on the observation deck while watching the beautiful sunset over Manhattan. There is a bar located on the 100th floor inside before you reach the sky deck.

Who has the best observation deck in NYC?
It really depends! They are all so different it’s not uncommon for you to want to visit multiple observatories while you are in NYC. Getting a pass like the Klook NYC pass or the all-inclusive NYC City Pass by Go City can make it that much more affordable.
Fun fact Melissa has been to every NYC observatory multiple times because years ago she was an NYC guide. Back then she would have said the Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center but for this 2024 NYC trip, she went to the Summit One Vanderbilt Observatory for the first time. Which was so unique because of the impressive mind-bending mirrors and immersive rooms along with a perfect view of the Empire State Building takes the cake! Read our blog post about our travel tips for visiting Summit One Vanderbilt.
